Many different people have been able to grab a win at the 2.5 mile super speedway of Pocono Raceway, but there is one driver who I feel has had plenty of success at this track, Bill Elliott. Elliott's first win at Pocono was on June 9th, 1985 and his last win at the "Tricky Triangle" was July 28, 2002. His first win there, driving the #9 Melling Racing Ford, was the 1985 Van Scoy Diamond Mine 500. Elliott started the 200 lap race with the pole position. He received the pole position with a speed of 152.563 miles per hour. This was a special race for a local jeweler, Tommy Van Scoy, who sponsored the race in hopes of getting his son into NASCAR but it didn't go as planned. This race was also the last race before Steve Gray would retire. Geoff Bodine was close to winning the race but a late pit stop caused him to fall back a few positions. Bill Elliott beat Harry Gant to the line by a shocking 0.2 seconds! Even though Bill Elliott is retired, I feel like his son Chase will be just as good as his father!
