Never would I have thought that Tony Stewart's announcement of retirement would come this soon. He officially stated he was retiring from the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series yesterday, September 30th, 2015. He also announced that Clint Bowyer will take over the #14 Chevrolet at Stewart Haas Racing in 2017. I feel that Stewart Haas Racing will be a great fit for him and his personality. I feel like the last few months for Clint have been a bit up and down. Earlier this year, Bowyer signed a three-year contract extension to stay with Michael Waltrip Racing but a few months later Bowyer was told that Michael Waltrip Racing was closing its doors after the 2015 season when co-owner of Michael Waltrip Racing announced he was joining with Chip Ganassi next year. Bowyer recently received a 25 point penalty from NASCAR due to an altered rear suspension on Bowyers #15 Toyota Camry. Bowyer also hasn't had much luck since he made it into the chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup this season with not so good finishes in the first two races of the chase. Since the news broke that he would replace Stewart in 2017 and beyond, I feel that took a load of stress away from Bowyer now knowing that he will have a ride at one of the elite teams in NASCAR's top series. Stewart has also had a lot on his plate lately. I personally feel like him retiring from the Sprint Cup Series will allow him more time to focus on helping Stewart Haas Racing as a whole become more competitive and win more races. I know the #14 fans will miss him, but we all wish him the best of luck in 2017 & beyond!
