Seventeen year old NASCAR driver Ben Rhodes began racing when he was just seven years old. He began with karts in 2008 then later moved up too Bandoleros. In 2010 Rhodes moved up to legend cars. At the start of 2011 he switched to late models. After the 2012 season he had racing late models for Marcos Ambrose Motorsports, he signed on with Turner Scott Motorsports. In 2013 Rhodes started racing part time in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. Later Rhodes was added to the NASCAR Next program. Rhodes raced full time for the series in 2014. He won the K&N Pro Series East championship for the 2014 season! He raced in four NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races in 2014. He scored 3 top tens out of 4 starts! This season Rhodes with participate in ten NASCAR Xfinity Series (formerly known as NASCAR Nationwide Series) races. He will drive the number 88 for JR Motorsports. The May Iowa race will be Rhodes first race in NASCAR's 2nd premier series.
Yesterday I had the opportunity to ask Rhodes a few questions at the NASCAR Hall of Fame. When asked, "If you weren't a race car driver what would you be?" He responded, "Well um, l would probably be a mechanical service contractor. I would be working on buildings, being an air conditioning man." After his response I then asked him, "What motivates you most?" He answered, "I'm a very goal oriented person so, I guess just the success and itself, it's hard for me to say it. I love the thought of racing too."
